William Carslake has worked as Cover Conductor at the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, on productions of Sylvia (2008) Giselle (2009) Tryst (2010) and Onegin (2010), and is currently working on Swan Lake. He enjoys a busy career in the UK and abroad.
He made his international debut with the Royal Orchestra of Oman in 2009 which led to an immediate re-invitation; his European debut was in Poland at the International Festival of Polish Music in 2007, performing on Polish National Radio with the K12 orchestra. At home William is Chairman of the K12 group of conductors and conducting professors, founded to improve access to conservatoire-level music education. Earlier in his career he founded the pioneering South London music project, Pembroke Academy of Music, which provides instrumental tuition to underprivileged young people. He is also a Trustee of the Elgar Foundation.
William is Principal Conductor of the London Charity Orchestra and the St Albans Rehearsal Orchestra. Recent engagements include concerts with Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, The Royal Orchestral Society and Wolsey Symphony Orchestra. William also works with Special Educational Needs, disabled and autistic children and adults, and leads large-scale projects for Cheltenham Festival and Armonico Consort. In addition, he recently conducted over 100 young violinists in the Royal Festival Hall for London Music Masters with members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Winner of the Hugh S. Roberton Conducting Prize, William trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Martyn Brabbins, and the St Petersburg Conservatory with Ilya Musin. He studied further with Jorma Panula in Finland and Benjamin Zander in London.
